Losing yours so someone else has more
Imagine the whole world is one giant blanket. If you give a piece of your warmth to someone else, the blanket stays warm, and eventually, that warmth travels back to you. When we share, we are not losing anything because we are all part of the same big family. It feels good because your heart knows that they are actually just another you.
Think of your love like a battery that never runs out. When you give some to a friend, you do not have less; you just moved the power to a new place. Physics tells us that energy cannot be destroyed, only changed. So, every kind thing you do is still alive somewhere in the world.
Animals like monkeys and birds help each other because they know it helps everyone survive. If I scratch your back today, you might save me from a predator tomorrow. It is a win-win game that nature programmed into our brains. Helping others is actually a very smart way to help yourself too.
Sometimes we feel like we are the most important person, like a single drop of water. But when we give and sacrifice, that drop falls into the ocean and becomes the whole sea. Losing the I feeling makes you feel much bigger and calmer. It is like taking off a heavy backpack you did not know you were wearing.
A farmer has to give up his seeds by burying them in the dirt. It looks like he is losing them, but he is actually starting a garden. If he kept the seeds in a jar, he would only have a jar of seeds forever. By letting them go, he gets back way more than he started with.
Giving is like a magic trick where you turn something you can touch into a feeling. You might give away five dollars, but you get back a feeling of kindness that lasts much longer. Money can be lost, but the person you became by giving it can never be taken away. You are trading something small for something big.
Think of your life like a breath of air. You have to breathe out β give β so that you have room to breathe back in β receive. If you try to hold your breath and keep all the air, you will get sick. Giving keeps the air of the world moving so everyone can stay healthy.
When you see a friend smile because you gave them a gift, you feel like you are smiling too. This is because our brains have mirror parts that let us feel what others feel. Giving is a way to hack your brain into feeling double the joy. You get your joy and their joy at the exact same time.
Sometimes you have to give up a toy now so you can have a better one later. Or you give up your time to study so you can be a doctor when you grow up. It is like waiting for a cake to bake instead of eating the raw flour. The wait makes the result taste much sweeter and stay longer.
When we give our time to teach a child or build a park, a piece of us stays here even after we are gone. It is like writing your name in a book that everyone will read forever. Sacrifice is how we become superheroes who live through the good things we left behind for others.
