Original Innocence

Innocence is like a brand new notebook with no scribbles or mistakes in it yet. In the beginning, people did not know how to be mean or feel ashamed because they only knew love and kindness. It is like when a baby laughs just because they see a leaf moving in the wind. This Original Innocence means that at our very core, deep inside, we are still made of that same goodness. We spend a lot of our lives trying to find that quiet, happy place again. It reminds us that we do not have to earn being good; we started out that way.

The air you are breathing has been shared by every living thing since the start of time. You are still breathing the same innocence. It never left. You just stopped noticing.

Original Innocence is pre-reflective consciousness where distinction between self and environment is non-existent. The Edenic state: no judgment, no temporal anxiety, existence in an eternal Now. Theologically: the Imago Dei, the spark of perfection preceding scars of experience. Epistemologically: Tabula Rasa not as emptiness but pure receptivity to Truth. Profound insights arrive when we strip learned cynicism and return to beginner's mind.

SOUND: A baby's soft breathing while they are fast asleep.

SMELL: The clean, powdery scent of a fresh blanket.

TASTE: Cool, clear water from a mountain spring.

TOUCH: Soft, velvet flower petal against your cheek.

SIGHT: The very first light of dawn when everything looks blue and soft.

BODY: Completely weightless while floating on your back: the body remembering before it learned to be heavy.

Music: Sleep On the Floor by The Lumineers

Music: Traveller by Chris Stapleton

Music: Order from Chaos by Max Cooper
