Symbiosis

A seed does not grow all by itself; it makes friends with tiny fungi in the soil. The seed gives the fungi some sugar, and the fungi help the seed find water and vitamins. They work together like a team of superheroes. This reminds us that we are all connected and that we are much stronger when we help each other out. To grow big and strong, we need to be kind and share what we have with our underground friends.

We are much stronger when we help each other out. The seed alone is a possibility. The seed with its fungi is a certainty. Independence is a myth. Interdependence is the law of the living.

Symbiosis is convergent recognition of mutual benefit. Mycorrhizal networks demonstrate that individuality is a biological myth. Energy and information flow through connected components. Aligns with holism: systems and their properties viewed as wholes, not just collections of parts. The seed that refuses to share is the seed that dies alone.

SOUND: A chorus of many different birds singing together: cooperation made audible.

SMELL: The earthy scent of mushrooms: the partner showing itself.

TASTE: Honey: made by bees and flowers working together.

TOUCH: Shaking someone's hand: the original symbiotic gesture.

SIGHT: A forest where all the trees are touching leaves.

BODY: The feeling of we when you are part of a group hug: your body recognizing the network.

Music: Oklahoma Blues by Josh Meloy
