Hydrostatic Equilibrium

Water is very good at finding a balance so it does not move when it does not have to. If you put water in a bowl, it stays flat and calm because the weight of the water is pushing down exactly as hard as the bowl is pushing up. It does not like to be tilted or uneven; it always searches for the lowest, most peaceful spot. This is why lakes look like mirrors when there is no wind. It is water's way of being perfectly still and centered.

Balance is not a lack of movement. It is a perfect agreement between all the forces acting upon you. The lake is not doing nothing. The lake is doing everything at once and it all adds up to peace.

In fluid mechanics, hydrostatic equilibrium occurs when a fluid is at rest and the pressure gradient force perfectly balances gravity: ∇P=ρg. Fundamental not only to oceans and atmospheres but stellar evolution — a star remains stable as long as outward thermal pressure from fusion balances inward gravitational pull, mirroring the stillness of a pond at the cosmic scale.

TASTE: The neutral, balanced taste of distilled water.

TOUCH: Resting your hand on top of still water without breaking the skin.

SIGHT: The perfect horizontal line of the ocean's horizon.

BODY: Standing perfectly still on one leg and finding your center: your body doing what water does.
