Libertarian Free Will

This is the feeling that you are the boss of you, no matter what! It says that even if your brain and your past try to tell you what to do, you can always say No and pick something else. You are like a superhero whose power is making a brand-new start in every moment. It feels like you are a spark of light that can fly in any direction it wants. This idea makes us feel very powerful because it means our choices are truly our own.

You are not a domino. You are the hand. Every moment is a fresh start. The bird does not ask the cage for permission to fly.

Libertarian free will argues determinism is false and agents possess causa sui: being the cause of themselves. Human agency is a unique causality initiating new chains without being fully determined by prior states. Scientifically difficult to reconcile with closed physical systems, yet aligns with intuition of the human spirit as a singularity where the universe reflects upon itself.

SOUND: A sudden, loud trumpet blast in a quiet room.

SMELL: A new car or new notebook: the scent of a blank slate.

TASTE: Taking a bite of something you have never tried before.

TOUCH: The feeling of snapping your fingers: instant agency.

SIGHT: A blank white piece of paper waiting for a drawing.

BODY: Suddenly changing direction while running: the body proving it can break the pattern.
