Equity vs. Equality

Equality means everyone gets the same size box to stand on to see over a fence. But if one person is short and another is tall, the short person still cannot see! Equity means giving the short person two boxes so they can see just as well. It is about making sure everyone gets to the same finish line, even if they start in different places. This is how we make sure no one is left behind.

Same is not always fair. Fair is not always same. The short kid needs two boxes. The tall kid needs one. Both see the game. That is justice.

Equality is a linear function; Equity is a multi-variant optimization problem. Equity accounts for initial state entropy, adjusting inputs to ensure convergent outcomes regardless of starting status. In biology, reflected in homeostasis: organs receive different blood flow based on demand. Fairness is not a fixed ratio but dynamic adjustment for systemic health.

Same Box or Right Box?
