Logotherapy

Sometimes life is hard or sad, but Logotherapy says we can always find a why to keep going. It is like being a superhero who finds a secret reason to be brave even when things look dark. You find meaning by creating something, by loving someone, or by how you choose to act when you are having a tough time. Even if you cannot change a bad situation, you can change how you think about it. Your why is like an anchor that holds you steady.

He who has a why can bear almost any how. The anchor does not stop the storm. It stops you from drifting.

Developed by Viktor Frankl, Logotherapy is founded on the will to meaning. Life has meaning under all circumstances, even the most miserable. Focuses on the future and meanings to be fulfilled. Connects to Stoicism through emphasis on internal control over one's attitude toward external fate.

SOUND: A single bell tolling clearly in a quiet valley.

SMELL: Pine or cedar: the scent of endurance and strength.

TASTE: Deep, dark chocolate: both bitter and sweet at the same time.

TOUCH: Holding a smooth worry stone or a loved one's hand.

SIGHT: A single candle burning in a very dark room.

BODY: Taking a deep, slow breath and feeling your chest expand: you are still here.
