Occam's Razor

Occam's Razor says that usually the simplest answer is the right one. If you hear hoofbeats outside your window in Kentucky, think horses, not zebras. You do not need a giant complicated story to explain why your socks went missing: the dryer probably just ate them! When you stop overthinking, the truth often just sits there waiting for you to notice it.

Do not multiply causes beyond necessity. The truth does not hide behind complexity. It hides behind simplicity.

In statistical modeling and physics, this is parsimony. When multiple models explain a phenomenon equally well, the one with fewest assumptions is preferred because it is least likely to overfit. Vital in quantum mechanics and the search for a Theory of Everything: the most elegant mathematical description wins.

SOUND: The simple beat of a single drum.

SMELL: A single rose instead of a perfume factory.

TASTE: Plain bread: the true flavor with nothing hiding it.

TOUCH: The smooth surface of still water.

SIGHT: A straight line: the shortest distance between two points.

BODY: Feel your center of gravity: balance is simplicity in the body.
