The Soul / The Inner Spark

Inside your body, there is a you that is not made of meat or bones. It is the part of you that dreams, loves, and wonders why the sky is blue. This is your Spark, and it is a tiny piece of the Divine fire. Even if your body gets old, your Spark stays young and bright. You are like a star wearing a human costume for a little while.

You are like a star wearing a human costume for a little while. The body is the costume. The star is you. The costume wrinkles. The costume tears. The costume eventually falls off. But the star was burning before the costume was sewn and the star will be burning after the costume is folded. You are not a body that has a soul. You are a soul that has a body. Temporarily. Every culture on earth arrived at this conclusion independently. Not because they talked to each other. Because the star inside them told them the same thing.

The qualia of experience — the subjective redness of red — cannot be explained by neurons alone. The hard problem of consciousness. If identity is metaphysical, if we are spiritual beings having a human experience, then the divine is both source and destination of the inner spark. The star was burning before the costume was sewn and will be burning after the costume is folded. Every culture arrived at this independently.

SOUND: Your own voice in your head when you think: someone is home inside the house.

SMELL: The smell of home that makes you feel safe instantly: the soul recognizing its address.

TASTE: A favorite food that brings back a memory: the body feeding the soul through the tongue.

TOUCH: The tingle when you hear an amazing story: spirit bumps — the spark responding to truth.

SIGHT: Looking into your own eyes in a mirror and wondering who is in there: seeing the question that cannot be answered by science.

BODY: Feeling bigger than your skin when you are really happy: the soul outgrowing the body for a moment.
