Isostasy
The Earth's crust "floats" on the mantle like a boat on water. If you put something heavy on it (like a giant ice sheet), the crust sinks. If the ice melts, the crust slowly pops back up! It's all about finding a perfect balance.
Everything in nature is constantly trying to find a peaceful balance. Even the giant mountains are "floating" in a perfect spot.
Isostasy is the state of gravitational equilibrium between the lithosphere and asthenosphere. It follows Archimedes' Principle: the crust floats at an elevation dependent on its thickness and density. This explains Post-Glacial Rebound, where landmasses continue to rise thousands of years after ice sheets melted. It mirrors Personal Resilience: when heavy burdens are placed on us we sink; when they are removed, we have an innate "isostatic" ability to rebound to our true level.
SOUND: The "creak" of a wooden floor when you step on it.
SMELL: The fresh, salty air of a floating dock.
TASTE: A marshmallow floating in hot chocolate — press it down and watch it rise.
TOUCH: Push a sponge into a bowl of water and feel it push back.
SIGHT: Watch a boat sink a little deeper when people climb on board.
BODY: Feel your feet sink into a soft mattress and then the mattress rise when you get up.
Music: Born in the U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
