Ratio & Proportion

Ratio is how we compare things to see if they fit together nicely, like the way a small key fits into a big lock. It is the secret behind why some music sounds happy and why some buildings look beautiful and strong. When things are in the right proportion, they feel "correct" to our eyes and ears, helping us feel at home in the world.

Proportion is the cornerstone of Euclidean geometry and classical aesthetics. A ratio represents a relationship between two quantities (a:b) that remains invariant regardless of scale — the basis for similarity in geometric shapes. The "Harmony of the Spheres" suggested celestial bodies follow the same ratios found in musical intervals, connecting arithmetic directly to cosmology.
