Universal Consciousness

Imagine there is only one giant light in the whole universe, but it is shining through a screen with billions of tiny holes. Each hole looks like a separate little light, but it is actually the same big light behind it. You are one of those holes, and so is your friend and your dog. We all share the same glow of being alive and aware. Even though we look different on the outside, the is-ness inside us is exactly the same. We are the universe's way of looking at itself.

One giant light shining through billions of tiny holes — we are the universe looking at itself. Cosmopsychism says consciousness is not something the brain produces. Consciousness is something the brain receives. Like a radio does not create the music. The radio tunes into the music. And every radio — every brain — tunes into the same broadcast. Different stations. Different clarity. Same signal. If this is true, then death is not the end of consciousness. Death is the radio breaking. The music continues. The signal was never inside the radio. Alan Watts said it: You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop. Erwin Schrödinger — the physicist — said: Consciousness is a singular of which the plural is unknown. There is only one consciousness. We just experience it through billions of keyholes. Every mystic tradition arrived at this conclusion through inner exploration. Physics is arriving at it through outer exploration. And both are pointing at the same light. The one behind the screen. The one that was never divided. The one that is reading these words right now.

Cosmopsychism: consciousness as fundamental, not emergent. Brains do not produce consciousness; they filter it. Schrödinger: consciousness is a singular of which the plural is unknown. Every mystic and physicist pointing at the same light.

SOUND: A large choir singing the same note in perfect harmony: the sound of many voices proving they share one breath.

SMELL: A library — millions of people's thoughts stored in one room: the scent of individual minds contributing to one collective knowing.

TASTE: Pure clear water — the basic thing every living creature needs: the taste of the one requirement that unites all life.

TOUCH: Your hand on a tree feeling the life inside it: the skin detecting a pulse that is not yours but is not different from yours.

SIGHT: The Earthrise photo taken from the moon: the sight that changed every astronaut who saw it because it showed one world with no borders.

BODY: Feeling your own pulse and knowing every human has that same beat: the body proving that the rhythm is shared.
