Photosynthesis & Carbon Sequestration

Plants are like magical straws that breathe in the air and turn it into solid wood and leaves. They take a gas called carbon and hide it deep in the ground through their roots. This helps keep the air clean and cool for everyone else to breathe. Soil is actually one of the biggest piggy banks for carbon in the whole world. By keeping the soil healthy, we help the Earth stay at the right temperature. It is a beautiful gift that plants give to the ground and the sky.

Plants give a beautiful gift to the ground and the sky. They eat light and exhale the air you breathe. Every breath you take was a plant's gift. Every bite you eat was sunlight in disguise.

Photosynthesis converts solar irradiance into chemical energy: glucose from CO₂ and H₂O. Fixed carbon transported to roots and released as exudates facilitates carbon sequestration — atmospheric carbon stored as stable humus. Soil contains more carbon than the atmosphere and all terrestrial vegetation combined. Stability depends on soil structure; tillage oxidizes and releases it. The ground is the planet's savings account.

SOUND: The rustling of leaves as they catch sunlight and breathe.

SMELL: Fresh, sharp scent of oxygen-rich air in a dense forest.

TASTE: A sun-ripened berry: literally stored sunlight you can eat.

TOUCH: Warmth of a leaf that has been sitting in the sun all day.

SIGHT: The vibrant green of chlorophyll working in a meadow.

BODY: Standing tall and upright, mimicking the trees reaching for the sun: your body photosynthesizing posture.
