The Veil of Ignorance
Imagine you are making rules for a new world, but you do not know who you will be. You might be a king, or you might be a person with no home. Because you do not know, you will make the rules fair for everyone just in case! This helps us think about what is truly fair for every single person. It stops us from being selfish and makes us think about the We.
If you did not know who you would be, you would make the world kind. The veil strips away selfishness. What remains is justice.
Rawls' Veil of Ignorance forces shared ignorance: participants are incentivized to maximize outcomes for the least advantaged. In computer science, parallels zero-knowledge proofs where truth is established without revealing identities. Creates a framework resistant to personal greed, ensuring systemic fairness.
