Impermanence: Everything Changes
Impermanence means nothing stays the same forever. Think of a river; the water is always moving, so you can never step into the exact same river twice. People grow, seasons change, and even mountains crumble into sand. While this might sound sad, it is what makes life exciting! Because things change, new flowers can grow, and you can learn new things every day. Change is the heartbeat of the world.
The river is never the same river. You are never the same you. And that is not loss. That is life breathing.
Impermanence (Anicca): all conditioned existence is in constant flux. Heraclitus: Panta Rhei (everything flows). Modern physics views objects not as static things but processes or energy patterns. From systems theory, impermanence is necessary for evolution and adaptation. Stability is often dynamic equilibrium: change so fast or subtle it appears still.
SOUND: A waterfall constantly hitting the pool below.
SMELL: Rain on dry pavement: petrichor, the scent of change.
TASTE: Ice melting into water in your mouth.
TOUCH: Wind blowing past you: you cannot hold it.
SIGHT: A sunset turning into night.
BODY: Feeling your hair or nails growing over time: change so slow you forget it is happening.
Music: Eyes Without a Face by Billy Idol
