Sacrifice (Sacrificium)

Sacrifice means giving up something you like for something you love even more. It is like a candle that gives up its wax to create light for others. In worship, we might give up our time, our money, or our selfish thoughts to show God what matters most. It proves that our love is real because it costs us something. This helps us let go of the I to find the We.

A candle that gives up its wax to create light for others. The candle does not lose. The candle transforms. The wax becomes light. The selfishness becomes service. The I becomes We. Talk is free. Sacrifice is not. That is why sacrifice is the only proof of love that nobody can fake. You can say you love someone for free. You cannot sacrifice for them for free. The cost is the proof. The proof is the point.

Sacrifice: the informativeness gate in practice. A costly signal increasing fidelity of communication β€” the only way to ensure a message is not accidental noise. By sacrificing, the practitioner regularizes devotion, ensuring it is full-rank and not superficial. De-centers the ego by breaking the feedback loop of self-gratification, creating epistemic space for the We to emerge. The cost is the proof. The proof is the point.

SOUND: The shhh of a candle burning: the sound of something giving itself away.

SMELL: Burning incense or wood: the scent of transformation through fire.

TASTE: The saltiness of a tear: sacrifice you can taste.

TOUCH: Tired muscles after helping someone else: the body's receipt for generosity.

SIGHT: A single light burning in a dark room: sacrifice making darkness visible.

BODY: The emptiness in your stomach when you fast: the body learning what the soul already knows.
