Gene Expression

Every cell in your body has the same book, but they only read the chapters they need. A skin cell reads the "Skin" chapter and ignores the "Brain" chapter. It's like a dimmer switch that turns some lights up and others down.

You contain everything you need to be anything; it's just about which "light" you choose to turn on.

Gene expression is the "Softmax Weighting" of the genome. While the density matrix of DNA is constant across all somatic cells, the "Active Mask" of transcription factors determines the cellular phenotype. It is the bridge between potentiality and actuality.

SOUND: A piano; the same 88 keys can play a sad song or a happy song depending on which ones you press.

SMELL: A kitchen where only the "breakfast" smells are active in the morning.

TASTE: The difference between a raw onion and a fried one; same thing, different "expression."

TOUCH: Feeling the difference between your soft eyelid and your hard fingernail (both made by you!).

SIGHT: An actor playing different roles using the same face.

BODY: Relaxing your shoulders while tightening your core; using different parts for different jobs.

Music: Lullaby by Billy Joel
