Moral Integrity

Integrity means doing the right thing even if nobody is ever going to find out. Imagine you found a dollar on the ground and no one saw you — what you do with it shows who you really are. When you are alone, your choices are like building blocks for your heart. If you choose to be honest and kind when it is just you, you build a very strong house inside. This makes you feel proud and happy without needing a gold star from a teacher.

Doing the right thing even if nobody is ever going to find out. Character is what you do in the dark. Reputation is what you do in the light. The world rewards reputation. But the body keeps score of character. You can fool every person in the room. You cannot fool the mirror at 3 AM. Integrity is not about being perfect. Integrity is about being consistent. The person you are when someone is watching should not be a stranger to the person you are when no one is watching. If the two versions shake hands and recognize each other — you have integrity. If the two versions shake hands and one flinches — you have work to do. The work is not punishment. The work is the point.

Virtue ethics: the focus on character rather than action. Integrity is the alignment of internal moral compass with external behavior regardless of social surveillance. Character is what you do in the dark. Reputation is what you do in the light.

SOUND: A clear ringing bell: the sound of something that has no reason to lie.

SMELL: Freshly cut grass: the scent of something that grew in the open with nothing to hide.

TASTE: Pure cool mint: the taste of a clean conscience.

TOUCH: A firm honest handshake: the body sealing a deal it intends to keep.

SIGHT: A straight line drawn on paper: the simplest visible proof that alignment exists.

BODY: Standing up straight with your shoulders back: the posture of someone who does not need an audience to stand tall.
