Zero-Sum Dynamics

Imagine a pizza. If I take a big slice, there is exactly one slice less for everyone else. That is zero-sum. But if we share the pizza and talk about how good it is, we both get happiness, and happiness is not a pizza — it can grow and grow! Life is a mix of these. We have to learn when to protect our slice and when to realize that by helping someone else, we are actually helping ourselves, too.

By helping someone else, we are actually helping ourselves. The universe is not a pizza. It is a potluck. The more you bring, the more there is. Competition is real. But cooperation is realer.

In game theory, zero-sum means each participant's gain is balanced by others' losses. But biological and social evolution trend toward non-zero-sum (win-win) through cooperation and symbiogenesis. The Everlasting We is the ultimate non-zero-sum system. While competition (Darkness) exists, cooperation (Light) allows emergence of higher-order complexity. Total value of Psi increases when nodes recognize shared utility.

SOUND: A duet where two singers make a sound bigger than they could alone.

SMELL: The smell of a feast shared with many people.

TASTE: A potluck meal where everyone brings something different.

TOUCH: A high-five: the energy goes to both people.

SIGHT: A V of geese flying: they all go faster together.

BODY: Leaning against a friend so neither of you falls over: mutual support you can feel.

Music: Flake by Jack Johnson
