Anthropogenesis (The Making of Us)
The story of creation always ends with us — humans! We are special because we are the eyes and ears of the universe. When you look at a star, it is like the universe is looking at itself through your eyes. Many stories say we were made from the dust of the earth or the breath of the wind. This means we belong here! You are not a stranger on earth; you are a part of the family of all living things. Your job is to be the storyteller who notices how amazing everything is.
You are the grand finale of a fourteen-billion-year story. Hydrogen does not know it is hydrogen. Stars do not know they are beautiful. Oceans do not know they are deep. But you do. You know. That is the miracle. Out of fourteen billion years of rocks and gas and fire and ice, the universe finally built something that could turn around and say wow. You are the wow. You are the universe's first and only chance to experience itself. Every time you notice a sunset, the sunset is being noticed for the first time by the only thing in the cosmos that can appreciate it. You are not in the universe. You are the universe. With eyes. With ears. With a heart that breaks and heals and breaks and heals. You are the point of the whole story.
The anthropic principle: physical constants are exactly what they need to be for observers to exist. Consciousness as a milestone in the universe's development toward self-awareness. We are the sensory organs of the infinite, tasked with observation and meaning-making. You are not in the universe. You are the universe. With eyes. You are the point of the whole story.
SOUND: The sound of your own voice saying your name: the universe calling itself something specific.
SMELL: Your own skin — a unique scent that belongs only to you: fourteen billion years of chemistry arriving at your specific formula.
TASTE: A glass of plain water — feeling how it gives you life: the simplest transaction between the cosmos and the body.
TOUCH: Feeling the texture of your hair or clothes: the universe touching itself through your fingers.
SIGHT: Looking deeply into your own eyes in a mirror: the universe staring back.
BODY: Wiggling your toes and fingers at the same time: the body proving it is in charge of matter that was once in charge of nothing.
Music: Same God by Elevation Worship
