The Present Moment

Even though we think about yesterday and tomorrow, the only time you can ever actually be in is right now. Think of time like a movie film; you are the light shining through just one frame at a time. The past is a finished book, and the future has not been written yet. Being present means paying attention to what you are doing this very second. It is the only place where you can make a choice or feel a hug. Right now is a gift, which is why we call it the present.

You cannot live in yesterday. You cannot live in tomorrow. You can only live in this breath. This is the only door that is ever open.

Presentism holds that neither future nor past exists; only the present is real. Contrasts with Eternalism. The specious present is the experienced duration considered to be now. Neuroscientifically, now is a brain construction integrating sensory data with ~80ms delay. Our conscious present is a post-hoc reconstruction serving as the interface for agency.

SOUND: Your own breathing right this second.

SMELL: The immediate scent of the air in the room you are in.

TASTE: The lingering flavor of the last thing you ate.

TOUCH: The pressure of your feet against the floor.

SIGHT: The exact colors of objects directly in front of you.

BODY: Feeling exactly where your hands are without looking: you are here, now, always.
